    Uprading from 7100 to 7260

    Hi,

I want to know if it's possible to upgrade from the first RC release to the newest possible release (7260 right?).

Can I upgrade? If I can, should I upgrade directly to the newest version, or should I progressively upgrade it? What activation/serial code should I put? From which site can I download it, and know it's the real file?

    Thanks, Hugo

    Nope.

7100's (BETA) can't get to 7200's (RC1) as the upg bits have/will never be developed.

Your better off doing a fresh format, and working from there, upgrades reek havoc on your system further down the line, which will eventually result in a fresh format. i say back up your important files, and format.

This was very true with all Downlevel's, XP/Vista and before, M$ didn't quite perfect it.

Although with the recent UPG innovations, thier' awsome in 7. (I've upgraded almost every build since 7201, and had to fresh install at 7228 for the same issue hugo is having) It takes a bit longer, but saves massive amounts of time; and are surprisingly reliable. I've yet to see any side effects of upgrading from vista, and within builds/versions of win 7, other than to get a fresh-install feeling without re-installing programs.

Philf, give it a try, and let us know if you can come across any down-turns, Im quite interested.

    Thanks,
    Ant

you can upgrade from 7100 to 7260 (32bit) but it is strongly prefered to do a clean install. You need to get an RC serial number from MS. its free

My current version is 64 bit - even if it's possible to upgrade, could I upgrade it to a 32 bit environment?

Tomorrow morning I will try to upgrade, and if I can't I will do a fresh install - So I can use the same serial number I used to install 7100 (downloaded from M$ RC website)?

Well, someone posted a trick. Run setup in compatibility mode for Vista and you can upgrade from 7100 to 7260. I haven't tried it myself though.

hugo, if you want to switch between 64 and 32 bit, you will need to do a clean install. As for the product key, I'm not sure if the RC key works but I think it will.

    Nope, sorry; no cross-architectures
