You need to be able to boot the Win7 DVD to make repairs if Win7 won't start.

Have you booted a CD/DVD before? Do you know how to set it in BIOS so that it prompts you to Press Any Key to Boot DVD? Are you getting that prompt? If not set it correctly: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

If you get the prompt to Press Any Key and DVD won't boot, then try another bootable CD/DVD to see if it will boot and run. If so, then replace the DVD. You can try extracting the ISO file using imgBurn, then burn another DVD at 4x speed with verify. If you used this image to write flash stick, it should burn another DVD okay.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I have never had a problem booting from cd. Not sure why it wouldnt work with this particular disc. BIOS is setup to boot from cd drive first and I can hear it try and start to read the disk but then it just would load to my previous installation. So I would never get to that prompt to "press any key".

OK, once I get it setup I will try and burn another DVD for future use. Can I burn a DVD from the flash stick?

Will I be able to repair anything from the 32-bit DVD (which works fine) or is that apples and oranges?

Do you have a CD/DVD combo drive because a CD drive will not boot or run a DVD.

If not you'll have to use another machine to write extracted ISO to flash stick, which once bootable can also be used for repairs until you get a DVD or combo drive.

32bit cannot be used to repair 64 bit.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

It's a cd/dvd drive. Bios only sees the optaric(master) drive and not the toshiba(slave). I tried swapping the 2 and BIOS still sees the optaric only. Then if I just plug in the toshiba, BIOS doesn't see a drive at all. If I replace this drive how will I tell BIOS to make it the master. Or am I over thinking this?

That Gateway ships with SATA HD's so there should be no jumpers to set.

If you're using IDE OD and/or HD's:

Make sure jumpers are set correctly and IDE ribbon cables and PSU cables are attached firmly and not faulty.

Try setting Optiarc as slave.

Google the OD/HD brand + set jumpers to learn exactly how it's done:
