    Maybe, maybe not.

Dual boot is typically doable, but can be difficult to get rid of in some cases. If you ultimately want Win 7 as a single OS, you might be better off to just get rid of XP.

But your PC may not support Win 7.

We know nothing about your PC.

Please fill in your system specs.

Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor..

The best way to dual boot with separate HD"s is to unplug XP HD during install of Win7, set target HD as first HD to boot in BIOS setup, after DVD drive. Then after install plug back in XP, boot it using one-time BIOS BOot Menu key which on HP is ESC, unless it gives another key to press on first boot screen.

This keeps the HD's independent to come and go as you please, whereas having Win7 configure a Dual Boot will interlock it to XP and require surgery to later remove XP.

Other tips for getting a purrfect Win7 install - use the ones which apply: re-install windows 7

It might help if you post a screen snip of your Disk Management of your HD's

Hello jimjo16, welcome to Seven Forums!

Have a look through this tutorial at the link below, it is a better method as you will end up with Windows 7 on the first partition on the Hard Disk Drive as that's the fastest part of the HDD and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Do you have two Hard Drives?

If you have only one HD then follow this tutorial to Dual Boot with XP: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

If you want us to look over your Upgrade advisor report and Disk Management, follow these steps to post up screenshots: Screenshot with Paint

To access Disk Management, click Start button, then rightclick Computer>Manage, choose Disk Management, maximize Window.
