Install Win7 from Partition on same HDD

    Hi,

I have managed to lock myself out of my HP laptop BIOS. I have also brilliantly disabled all boot sources except HDD.

Is there a way to create the Windows 7 Install files on the laptop HDD and then boot of the local HDD and install windows?

Perhaps have the installation files on a seperate partition and run setup and install to a new "C:\" partition?

Thanks for any help or advise you can give.

Why do you need to enter BIOS?

To change the boot source to DVD. Since I cannot enter the BIOS or use F12 to choose the source(My brilliance) I cannot boot from DVD or USB ONLY from the HDD.

Pressing the f11 key during startup on a computer with an HP factory image will start the system recovery process even if the prompt is not displayed..

Note: All data will be deleted.

The Laptop is using one of the newer graphical BIOSes to any attempt to change the system prompts for a password. Besides I deleted the restore partition as I had the installation media.

I have even tried some utilities to try and bypass the BIOS password but no luck.

Refer to your laptop manual and remove the motherboard battery briefly. This should restore the BIOS to its factory defaults, and also remove any user-set passwords. Note: This is not the same battery as you use when running the laptop when not using it on the mains, rather it is the equivalent of the CR2032 coin cell battery that is found on desktop motherboards.

You can't use the Esc key, HP doesn't still use the Esc key as the one-time boot device menu key?

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Laptops now have a NVRAM chip that stores the BIOS passwords in. You cannot remove the CR2032 battery on any of the newer generation laptops and erase the BIOS password. HP & Dell has a BIOS password utility to generate a new password but they do not give it out and when you send a laptop in to get it reset, even if you can prove you OWN it. They replace the motherboard.....nice way to make money....It is cheaper to buy a new laptop.

I have tried very hard to get past the BIOS password. That is why I need to know how to start an install from the local HDD.

ESC key works but I still need the BIOS password.
