Boot problems- can not use keyboard to scroll

Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone can help me here, I am pretty new when it comes to anything to do with software hardware problems or going into the bios settings or boot menu.I do not know how to reboot from my windows 7 disk it just wont load from the Disk or fix the windows problems i am having as it is trying to repair the windows 7 problems before it loads and never loads.
I have a wireless keyboard and cannot use the up and down arrows to load windows normally even bought a USB keyboard and it still wont let me scroll up or down. It will let me into the bios or boot settings. it goes into the repair windows mode and just keeps searching for problems and doesn't do anything even after leaving it for hours.

Please could someone help me to load windows so that i can either reformat the disk or repair the problems i am having. I am not sure if its the registry or Hardware problems that cause it not to load.... but started freezing a few days ago .
I do not have a boot disk just installation disk...
do i need to change something in the BIOS settings? I have tried to load from disk in the bios settings but it still wont load...

Try the Repairs from the DVD Repair console or Repair CD System Recovery Options so that it doesn't depend on possibly corrupt Win7 files for repair. System Repair Disc - Create

Boot DVD/Repair CD, accept any offered Repair. If Win7 won't start, boot back into options to Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times. It should offer System Restore but if not run it separately if necessary.

Try using the one-time BIOS BOot Menu key to trigger DVD/CD. You may need to borrow a PS2 keyboard if it has a port for one.

As a last resort, you can boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD to wipe the HD, which will autostart. Then wipe the HD from Disk tab, which will force Win7 DVD to autostart too.

If forced to do this, you can copy out your files using DVD with this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Re- clean install.
After having so much trouble loading my windows7 ultimate i decided to reinstall the operating system again,After some time, discovered after 2 weeks of struggling to get it to boot in the Bios settings the mouse and keyboard were disabled...maybe this was to stop Newbies like me getting up to mischief in the Bios settings.

Anyway i think if i worked that out, i would have had this sorted a week ago trial and error i guess the only way to learn things just started going hay-wire so it resorted in re-installing again.

Even though the systems is fairly new it has 3 HDDS x2teribytes and one SSD hdd 1 Terribyte.. on board, and a gigabyte motherboard X58A- Ud7 and 6 gigs of memory.


What i don't understand it has taken over 2 hours to do a clean install surely this is not right?

I can not believe it and to make things worse just to install the drivers is taking forever,maybe its the way i have installed it or something it usually just takes over half and hour and to load one of the drivers .

my question is my system is new.. why would it take so long, i need to run the virus checker just in case it maybe that.
i would appreciate any help or knowledge on installing...I could understand if it was an old system but its not.

When its running its very fast i have had it since Dec 2010 things just started playing up that is why i have resulted in formatting and reinstalling.

The juries not out yet i am not convinced this upgrade of windows is the best. XP in my opinion was more stable..

Test your RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes or overnight: RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Forums Remove each RAM stick to see if it affects performance.

Did you check for a newer BIOS version update? If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Sometimes boot sector corruption can cause problems. Unplug all other HD's to wipe your target HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation Test your HD using maker's diagnostics/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp

Unplug all other HD's and follow these steps (which apply) to get a perfect Win7 reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

If you install Upgrade version to wiped HD you'll need to leave the Producct Key blank during install, then afterwards do the quick registry workaround given here to activate Upgrade version on cleaned HD: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Forums

So much for all that help its been 4 hours and early 1 am in the morning, it still hasn't loaded properly, I actually asked my friend today who visited, he knows more about computers.He was stumped as well and also uses windows 7 but he's having troubles as well . i thought of Disabling my HDDs funny you say that!
This is ridiculous! it doesn't help if i don't know much about the Bios settings i am really not that technical either i usually get away with just reformatting to me that is easier but this time its not worked out that way.


Looks like i will look at this tomorrow with the suggestions you have given me even though i supposedly reformatted its actually installed twice somewhere on one of my drives so i will disconnect the HDDs thats not a problem.

and do the other things you suggested thanks heaps.. i guess its one way of getting to know my computer.

Anyway, the keyboards work fine and the mouse.. that was the builders of my computer who disabled them they did that probably to stop me changing stuff i don't know but, i am not that ambitious .

If you can get to Disk Management: maximize the window, use the Snipping Tool in Start Menu to take a rectangular snip of the drive listings and map, post back using Paper clip in reply box. You may have configuration problems.

If you can't do that, then unplug all other HD's, wipe the HD of possible boot sector corruption and infection using the tutorial posted earlier, then try install.

If this fails try the other steps I gave earlier.
