Make ISO from DVD/Change to univeral install make USB

Ok I've only been a member for a short time and like this site. Lots of info.

What I want to do is make a Win 7 ISO file from my DVD install disk. Which is a retail upgrade version.
Then I want to change the install routine to make that ISO a universal install ISO.
Then I want to make a USB drive that is bootable and has the universal Win 7 install on it.

I have browsed through some of the tutorials and find some info but what I can't seem to find is how do I make a ISO file on my hard drive from my Win 7 DVD.
So please point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

    Hello mate.

There should be a free trial version here to extract the ISO from the DVD at this link below.

    ImgBurn will do this also.

ISO CD DVD image creator, editor and ISZ DMG DAA UIF to ISO converter - UltraISO can extract/create/edit/convert CD and DVD image files directly, make bootable CDs and convert ISZ DMG DAA UIF to ISO.

Then after it's extracted from the disk , find the ei.cfg file and rename it to .old and leave it in place.

Then I use ImgBurn to re-create an ISO out of it.

    Then use this.

    Thanks Guys. All done.

Well not really. After completing the burning of the ISO to the USB drive I ran the setup and no universal install. I used the eicfg_removal tool and it did not remove or rename that file. So I went in and renamed it to ei.old. The booted from the USB and got the universal install.

But I also burned a DVD and that now is the same as my regular DVD.

    Hello again mate.

That's the reason I suggested to rename the ei.cgf while it was still files as the removal tool is for use on original ISOs; good to see you got it sorted and thanks for the update.

Well I used Ultra ISO to create the ISO file from my 7 DVD. I would of thought it worked on all 7 ISO files.

I would too though I have never used that tool at all so I have no experience with it.
