Did you reinstall XP with the slipstreamed ISO?

How did you get it to work in AHCI for both OS's?

As you know I was unable to get into XP when in AHCI mode. Switched to IDE and no problem. I downloaded the AHCI drivers for my controller and installed them into the existing XP instalation by following a guide I found on the net.
Once that worked, I slipstreamed them in a XP w/SP3 iso

I have yet to take on fresh install of XP, and Win7 will be replaced with the image file I created yesterday.

Could you PLEASE give some details on where you found the guide and a link to the drivers.

Did you have to add anything to the registry?
Did you do it manually or was it in a file of some type?

The guide I used is located here Guide: Enable AHCI in Windows XP After Installation - Bootbeta

I then searched through intel AHCI drivers until I found
RST_9.6.4.1002_Win_drivers_and_utils.zip... read the Readme.txt and found it included the driver I was looking for... the Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller

I followed the guide and when rebooted, I had an error upon entering XP. (See Snip 1)

I had to download
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology... iata_cd.exe from Intel

I did not run it from a cd, I just ran it in windows. Once done, I rebooted and had another error. (Snip 2)

I then deleted the install of Intel® Rapid Storage Technology from control panel uninstall a program, rebooted and all was good! (Snip 3)

Nice work, JimmyJazz. You've got rep!

This thread will help others via Google because of your research and diligence.

We knew that Win7 could be changed to AHCI with the BIOS edits but had not seen it done with XP here yet TMK.

You should stick around to help others.

Few questions regarding RAM
I have 2GB DDR3 RAM on my laptop at the moment, I was thinking about getting 1 or 2 GB RAM added to my laptop. I'm planning to add more, as CPU is constantly hitting nearly 1.5gb ram with very few applications opened. I have some basic questions, (they may be silly in nature too), I would...

Some fan questions
Ok, so my AMD Phenom II X2 idles around 40 - 45 C, which I don't like. I'm currently using a heatsink from a 2003, Socket 768 era computer. The heatsink actually fits my AM3 socket. The fan I'm using is from another heatsink which shipped with my CPU, it was a generic made-in-china heatsink and...
