Windows 7 Constantly Reports Missing Files Which are Still There

Hi,

my computer for some reason has been behaving strangely. After format and reinstall, many of the windows features would not work, for example when I right click on "Computer" -> "Properties" and get to the System page, selecting "Remote Settings" "System Protection" or "Advanced System Settings" does not do anything.
it also prompts that many files are missing, it's immediately apparent when I try to eject a USB drive and i get the message that the hotplug.dll module is missing.

The thing is, all the files are still there. Recently after clearing the BIOS and reinstalling, everything was perfectly normal. it stayed normal for about a month and now it's back to this state again. Sometimes my Network LAN card would stop working as well, had to reset BIOS to get it to work again. This is not the normal corrupt system files problem, I have never seen anything like this before, any ideas?

I have replaced the motherboard before, memtest (which was a prime suspect) was also cleared. could PSU cause such symptoms?

This system is running on a RAID 0 SSD .
I had an old HDD which Windows 7 was installed onto with the same hardware about a year ago, it worked fine. After booting back into it and using it for a while, it appears the problem is happening on this Win 7 installation as well, so it's not the disk.

I stumbled across something very similar elsewhere but cannot find it now. They resolved their problem by updating their OCZ SSD firmware to Firmware v1.32, released on 3-27-2011.

Since you say it happened with the older 7 install on different, spinning/rotating/ drive/s then I wouldn't think it is a problem with the SSDs.

It really sounds like it could be a memory problem. Some memory is bad and when re-writing info, files, back to the drive is is being corrupted.

Try running MemTest86+ from a boot CD or thumb drive and see if you get any errors.
Let it run for at least 5-10 hours. Like overnight or when you are at work (if this is on your home PC).

Could be anything.

I will definitely try this! but my installation on another mechnical HDD faced similar problems so that's not very encouraging but I'm going to give it a shot for sure!

Yes same make and model

one Biostar TA790GXE 128M , i replaced it because initially I thought the LAN card went bonkers but later it happened on the new board too and a BIOS reset would fix it. Another thing is the LAN card non functional would happen after I boot into Parted Magic from a USB disk, very strange stuff. I believe this whole episode started from this but I cannot point out what happened or is happening exactly.

Yes i have since discovered the HijackThis! bug, all my 64bit Windows computers have file missing logs. However sadly the problem is very real on my computer.
As described constant hotplug.dll missing module prompts, windows features not responding after clicking, programmes getting cranky.

At the peak of the problem when the computer is finally unusable, all applications will prompt a message , something like a 64 bit compatibility error, please check with vendor something... and i mean ALL programs that were working perfectly fine before.

it really really suggests a memory error but i cannot find any problems.
