Try removing DVD drive from BIOS boot order and use the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on BIOS splash scrreen to trigger DVD drive. This may help avoid the hang at restart.

If HD hangs again, see if it registers in BIOS. If so, what is the SATA controller setting?

Look at the make of the HD, then find the maker's diagnostics/repair scan, burn to CD and run Extended scan. HD Diagnostic

I somehow could restart the installation procedure by disconnecting HDD and started my pc with xp DVD in dvd drive. In the meantime installation was going on i reconnected the HDD and setup correctly identified my HDD and all my partitions.
Installation is going on smoothly now....fingers crossed.

This was just a temporary solution to my bootup screen problem.Any ideas how this problem doesn't repeat itself???
