    Hello,
Installed Acronis True Image Home 2011 a couple days ago. I did not setup any items within Acronis yet for backups, etc. After install my system appeared O.K. and have shutdown/restarted several times without issue. Yesterday, the computer shut down inadvertently, then at boot i get this message:

    Title Screen: Windows Boot Manager
    Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Problem? I suspect something with Acronis damaged by Windows 7 boot files.
    How to fix????

In reading the various postings on the web (including Windows 7 forum!), it seams that Windows Startup Repair would be the best bet to resolving my issue. I put the DVD in, reboot, I see a scroll bar the bottom and text says "loading files....", then I see the "Starting Windows" splash screen with the Windows 7 logo...and that's it. The system never gets to a point where I can choose my language, select repair options, etc.

So....I read on the forums the Easy BCD would be a good tool to fix my issues. I downloaded it on a separate system and check it out. It looks like a GUI based program, so I'm confused on how to run it on my Windows 7 system that won't boot. Can I make a bootable version of Easy BCD?

Is correcting the BCD my issue? I don't know

I loaded Partition Commander 11 to check things out...I see a "System Reserved" partition which has bootmgr and the BCD files on it, I also see my partition where Windows 7 is installed, and a third partition where I store my data, pics, videos, etc.

There are a couple of tools in PC 11 to "fix" boot issues, but none have worked to this point.

I pulled the HD and connected via usb dongle to another system (XP). I can browse and see all files on all partitions.

I made backups of my System Reserved partition. I deleted my BCD file and tried to boot from windows install DVD...same action...Stays at Windows Starting screen.

I then deleted my System Reserved partition, tried to boot from windows install DVD...same action...Stays at Windows Starting screen.

I went back into Partition Commander and set the windows 7 partition to active...tried to boot from windows install DVD...same action....Stays at Windows Starting Screen.

    I tried a different Windows 7 Ultimate DVD...same issue.

O.K. I pulled the all external USB devices, reseated memory and replace with old HD with XP on it. It boots fine and I was able to run my Win 7 Install disk at boot and get to the install or repair screens.

I shut it down and put my original Win 7 HD back in, choose to boot to Windows rather than repair...It comes up!

Now...to find what device may have caused it?

    Any help??

    Thanks,
    Craig

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized full Disk Management drive map with listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

Not sure how Win7 booted if you deleted SysReserved partition then only marked Win7 partition Active but didn't run Repair a few times to write the System boot files to 7 partition with only it's HD plugged in.

Possible that Win7 may be booting off the XP partition which is why we need to see the screenshot and know what you want to do.

    restored system reserved

I restored the system partition from a backup. I tested prior to pulling the memory and cards, but had the same errors. I neglected to put that in my previous post

If you'll post back the Disk mgmt screenie we can look it over for you to make sure there won't be other problems. Screen Shots

SysReserved should read System Active for starters.

Thanks for the double check. The System Reserved partion is marked properly and all is working.

I'm going to perform some additional backups and resize my Data partition as well.

I would delete the unused 100mb fourth Primary Partition at the right and either extend the Data partition, or accept the Logical Extended partition offered when you then attempt to Create New another 4th partition in Disk Mgmt.

This way you can keep adding logical sub-partitions into the space on right as needed, and not risk accidental conversion to Dynamic disk if you try to add a fifth partition at all.

    Partition or Volume - Delete
Partition or Volume - Create New
    Partition or Volume - Extend
    Partition or Volume - Shrink

Hello cjohns06, welcome to Seven Forums!

If you choose to delete the 100MB partition to the far right then shrink the right side of the D: Data partition to create unallocated space, you could use Option One of this tutorial to create a fourth Primary partition.

Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

This tutorial has some useful information about creating Extended partition / Logical drives, be sure to have a look at Method Two if you're interested.
