    Windows 7 and Ubuntu dual-boot


    Hi everyone,
    I have a Windows 7 OS installed on a SATA drive, A few days ago I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on an IDE drive. So far the only way is to switch the HDD drives in BIOS to boot up the one I want. Can anyone help me here.

    do you want to dual boot them off the same hard drive?
    I do the same swapping thing for 7 and Vista, but I have to take the side off the case and switch the cables as my bios doesn't support multiple hard drives

    Hello mate.


    Leave the OS/HDD you want to start as default set as the first boot device in the BIOS and when you want to start/boot the other OS/HDD use the one-time boot menu hot-key specific to your ASUS mobo which is the F8 key, when the PC starts just start tapping the F8 key to get to the one-time boot menu.

    You have the best setup possible. Switching via the BIOS is far better than a traditional dual boot. The day you want to get rid of Ubuntu, you do not have to wrestle with the Grub.

    good point. a few seconds longer in the bios is a lot better than trying to save your windows install from being lost by grub if you remove ubuntu.
