    Background taking over screen

I am new to this whole thing, so please respond in laymans terms. I have just installed windows 7. The process was seamless, but the second I got to the desktop, a problem began. Intermittently, the screen will go black and windows logo desktop wallpaper will appear on the screen. After a few seconds the desktop reappears. The computer is fully functional when not freezed up with the wallpaper, so all drivers are up to date, and I have sp1. What is wrong and how could I fix this issue?

    Welcome shizzler6

Check your settings in Control Panel, Power Options.
Make sure they are not set too low like:
Turn Off Display - 1 minute
Put computer to Sleep - 1 minute

Thanks docbrown, but these incidents occur at random times. I may go without this happening anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes.
