"Setup is preparing your computer for first use" every boot
This is a bit of an odd issue, and everyone I've asked has been stumped.
Every time I reboot my laptop after the loading screen it shows the "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" screen for about 10 seconds before proceeding as usual. I have a part time job building (and imaging) systems among other things, and I can say this is identical to the screen very near the end of the 7 installation process.
I cannot say what I could have done to cause this, I seldom reboot my laptop and I had done countless things to it before the issue started (including fixing the lack of recently used programs, thanks to SevenForums).
Symptoms are identical to a few other reported cases, but no solutions.
Examples:
setup is preparing your computer for first use appears every time i boot
"Setup is preparing your computer for first use"
One interesting thing is that this issue has rendered safe mode (but not recovery mode) useless. The "preparing for first use" screen comes up just after Windows loads the core files, except a dialog box informs me that it cannot continue in safe mode and requires a restart. This proves that whatever is commanding the process to start is doing it along with the core windows startup, and this could make things very hard to reverse.
Some people have brought the issue on themselves by running "msoobe.exe", and it's quite likely this is the program being executed every time. I tried removing the file (making a backup obviously), but explorer can't do it. And I can't get into safe mode (!!!).
I have tried system restore, startup restore, uninstalling and reinstalling SP1 (not that I was blaming it) and other obvious remedies.
This issue has no effect on the computer's normal running (other than boot time), but it's a pain in the ass and I think the fact it's broken safe mode is a cause for concern.
I've gone on enough, but really the point is HELP ME!
TIA,
