I really appreciate your help! The disc I have been using doesn't appear to be working, so I've burned the iso to a different disc at a slower speed using ImgBurner, and the program verified the disc. Now whenever I load up the disc I get stuck at the "Setup is starting..." screen. It's just one thing after another....

Try removing all but 2gb of RAM to try install.

Next try resetting the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup, set SATA controller to AHCI mode to try install.

Next, try wiping the HD again with Diskpart Clean Command to clean the boot sector of any corruption.

Next, try using Step 2.2 in the Optimize tutorial about Diskpart to create the partition and mark it Active .

If these all fail, I would try install from USB stick: install UltraISO trial, on File tab Open ISO, on Bootable Tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write. Boot under USB or HD's.

You can also move HD to another machine, install with it's HD unplugged, then SysPrep the HD on that machine before moving it back so it will start on the target machine. SysPrep to move HD to another computer

Okay, I will try those if this doesn't work, but I'm on the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen. I see one spot, "Disk 0 Unallocated Space", Total Size 298.1 GB (all free). However, the message reads "Windows cannot be installed to this disk" but I can still click Next. Should I continue?

I should say that I've gotten to this point before, with the other disc, and I had the same message. When I started the installation THAT time I got stuck at 0% of "Copying Windows files..."

Use Custom install drive options to create New partition around 100gb then Format to try install.

You are booting the installer, correct?

I noticed that my installer did not have the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen. I think I remember seeing that the first time I tried using the first installation disc, but it never appeared again, not even when I used a new disc. Is that screen important to the process?
I just tried clicking next on the "Where to install Windows" page and I got the message "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."

Confirm you are booting the DVD, and specify exactly how the install differs from this illustrated tutorial: Clean Install Windows 7

I go straight from step 5 (License Terms) to step 7 (Where to Install Windows). No step 6 (type of installation).

Likely a bad installer - best to borrow one from a friend or find one which HASH checks out against official HASH.

Okay I burned a new installer, and I selected Custom Install. Now I'm at the "Where do you want to install Windows" screen again, and I see Disk 0 Partition 1 & Partition 2. I tried clicking new on the second partition, which has 296.6 GB of free space, but nothing happened. There is a message that says "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 2." I can click next for partition 2, but the message changes to "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information." Formatting does not work either, error 0x80070057. I'm gonna try erasing the disk one more time...
