"Not responding!"

A friend of mine are having some serious problems on his Gateway notebook! Because they refrain from giving us any technical assistance I am resorting to this forum where I have recieved so much help in the past.
He is experiencing the same problem over and over again, and nothing we do seems to resolve the problem. We intalled Vista, Windows 7 7022, then XP, and then Windows 7 7057, but the same thing keeps on happening.
He constantly gets a "non responding" issue when opening programs. Sometimes they open normally and sometimes not. It also just happens randomly with random programs.
This is what he has already tried, but to no avail!!:
We have done the following to try and stop the problem of "Not Responding":
1. Hardware:
a) We have changed the memory and the problem is still there.
b) We took out the battery and re-inserted it again. Still the same.
c) We removed the harddrive and re-inserted it again. Still the same.
d) We checked the fan. There is no dirt and it is working just fine.
2. Software:
a) Vista
b) Windows 7
c) XP Home
d) Windows 7
We have tried all of the software above, but the problem of "not responding" is still there.
d) We removed Norton Internet Security anti-virus and replaced it with Kaspersky.
e) We deleted some add-ons.
f) We have done a Windows System Generator Health Report. There it gives an error ( Symantec Network Security Intermediate Filter driver: tv.ConfigMgrErr24)
g) We have run "Regedit" and deleted some Windows Keys
h) We have uninstalled Nero.
i) We have uninstalled iTunes.
j) We have updated the BIOS from the Gateway website. ( Flashed the BIOS )
QUESTIONS:
1. Is this M-6847 Gateway product compatible with Windows7 or not?
2. Which BIOS version will work if Windows7 is the Operating System?
3. Which BIOS version will be the best for M-6847?
4. Which Registry Cleaner is compatible with Windows7 on Gateway?

I also insert an Everest report on his system specs.

We truly hope and believe there is someone out there that can provide us with some help on this matter!!

Did you install all of these on top of each other or mult booting on seperate partitions?
Your friend may have to format and start again make sure he has backed up his important stuff. Personally I would start with XP on the first partition Vista on the next then whichever version you have of Seven on a third one.

Start from scratch mate you will save a lot of frustration.

I think he meant they installed all of these OSes one by one, not one after another, but just one os by itself and when they discovered problems with it, they formated and tried their luck wth another os and so on.
At least that was how i understood his post, maybe im wrong.
In any case it would be wise for anyone who wants to multi-boot between OSes, to start installing from the oldest OS to the newest, which would mean first Xp, then Vista, then Win 7, on separate partitions ofcourse.

If they cant get XP to run not much point trying the others.
If XP has problems then it is a BIOS or hardware problem.

Thanks for the replies thus far guys! I did a clean install everytime. All the OS's run fine, exept for the 'non responding' issue! Which is extremely bothersome, for you can't do anything else on th PC until it starts after, like a minute, again. Garysgold, I will check out the 'Reliabilty Monitor' suggestion you mention and reply back. spoons27 we installed the latest BIOS from Gateway. And we don't get any error report on hardware.
I really hope we can get to the bottom of this, and I truly appreciate your help and time on this. Thanks!!!!

I had my first play with a laptop recently, and after pulling all the bits out i could find, and putting them back in again, the display had disappeared.

After looking around i read that taking the battery out and then keeping the start button depressed for 30 seconds or so, then refit battery, will fix lots of problems .

It worked for me. Might be worth you giving it a try.

Ran a 'Reliability report' but I don't know what to make of it, so I attach it. I hope someone can make sense of it!
