Black Screen?

Hi,

A few months ago I was having issues with Windows 7 64 bit (So I settled for 32 bit, I need 64 bit now though). I thought the issues was the disc I was using. So I burned a new one. Vista 64 bit, and Windows 7 32 bit work fine. However, Windows 7 64 bit does not work. I just finished installing a new copy of it; however after "Windows is starting..." I see a black screen. I can see my cursor but the rest of the screen is black (Occasionally I see a processing circle for a split second then nothing) . Any ideas?

Things I've tried:
(1) Hard rebooting - No fix
(2) Booting into Safe Mode - Experienced the same issues

Computer Specs:
6gb Corsair (a total of 3)
Clavier Black Hard Drive
i7 920 Processor (no Overclocking)
MSI Eclipse SLI

Try installing with only 2gb of ram.

Hi, Thanks for your suggestion. I tried doing it with only 2 GB, I'll update this post with the results!

**Update** It worked, you are a genius. Would it be okay to reinstall the other 4 GBs of ram after install? Or are they bad? Windows & runs fine with 2 GB by the way, no black screen issues.

**Update 2** I went ahead and tried installing all 6 GBs back. Unfortunately, once it get's to the "Starting Windows" Screen, It just stalls. Anything above 2 GB seems to have this issue.

Sounds like one or more of the ram sticks is bad. Have you tried moving them around to different slots>

You know for sure one 2GB stick is good so try replacing it with a different 2GB stick, see what happens.

Yes, but if the individual sticks all work and the three together still fail, it's just a configuration issue. Upping DRAM voltage slightly or tweaking the timings might resolve it. Sometimes a BIOS update will fix things also, but always do that as a last resort or if you are sure that's the exact issue.

Thanks for your help guys. I'm going to try to reinstall Windows 7 (i'm getting some blue screens of death as a result of Driver Genie ). I tried each 2gb ram strip separately, they all work. They just don't work together. (The bios recognize them as being there, just windows 7 won't boot up)

*Update*
I managed to get it to run with 4 GBs of ram, however, it's slower than it is with 2 GB.

**Update 2**
I'm running a memtest, I'll let you guys know what turns out. =]

You are welcome.

Are all sticks the same?

Hey guys,

Thanks for your help I managed to fix it. The issue was that I needed a BIOS update. I found it weird that Vista 64 bit worked but Windows 7 64 bit did not. I ran a BIOS update and it's all working now. Thanks so much!
