    Windows 7 Professioal Installation problems

I spent all day yesterday with Dell support getting the CODE Editor to work in IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software, recovering missing files for several applications and getting Office Accounting 2009
Professional to work after install windows 7 Pro. Finally got it working all but recovering the Office Accounting 2009 Professional’s files.

What I discovered is that the Windows Easy Transfer from Microsoft, as a first step before installing Windows 7 and deleting all partitions, did not copy all the files and settings used by applications on C Drive before
Installing Windows 7 Pro. I was able to recover some file from my daily backup that I have scheduled using
Seagate manager’s backup utility which is scheduled to run nightly, backing up all C drive, but found out it’s
not backing up all the files either. I did a manual highlight selecting all the folders and files on C Drive. Then selected copy
And pasted the into a folder on my external hard drive named DriveC04132011 on April 13th and did another one
Exactly the same way for April 26th DriveC04262011. On both occasions it did not copy all the files nor did they
Copy the same files but I was able to find some of the missing files in those folders. The missing ones I was not able
Find I can recreate I think.

As of now I have all the applications working that a critical but still have more to install to complete the Windows 7
Install. What a nightmare…. I plan to advise MicroSoft of their problem.

I think you may be expecting too much of Easy Transfer.
It will tranfer Settings from applications but not files automatically.

You can specify addition files, however.

Transferring files and settings: frequently asked questions

"You can transfer most files and program settings. Specifically:
    • Files and folders. Everything within the Documents, Music, Pictures, and Shared Documents folders. Using advanced options, you can select additional files and folders to transfer from other locations.
    • E‑mail settings, contacts, and messages.
    • Program settings. Settings that keep your programs configured as you had them on your old computer. Windows Easy Transfer doesn't transfer the programs themselves. Some programs might not work in this version of Windows, including security programs, antivirus programs, firewall programs (your new computer should already have a firewall running to help ensure safety during the transfer), and programs with software drivers.
    • User accounts and settings. Desktop backgrounds, network connections, screen savers, Start menu options, taskbar options, folders, specific files, network printers and drives, and accessibility options"
