    Sony Vaio

Help he if you can pls.
i got a sont laptop model number VGN-NS20E but wouldn't boot up. It come with no windows DVD but did have the product code on the back on the laptop and was running Vista Pro. So i bought an upgrade disc of window 7 (genuine copy) The problem is that when it booted up there was 2 partitions one saying OEM approx 10Gb and the 2nd saying Partition two showing 232Gb. i tried to go over the OEM windows and it wouldn't allow me as it said that the folder was corrupt. This is now where i realy made a big boo boo i removed all the partitions and had just one big hard drive. Now when i try to install Win 7 i click install now it put in the first part of installing windows where a 'tick' shows up beside it then when it goes to the next part (expanding Windows Files ) it just sits at 0% have left it for about 2hours and nothing. so i turned it off and started again but it just does the same thing.
Any help guys i would be greatly appreciative!!!!!

    Thanks

    Paul

Reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

Next wipe the HD of any corrupt code: Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command
    DISKPART At PC Startup

Boot the Win7 DVD, choose Custom install, create your partition(s) as desired, format to try install.

Next: Unplug all other HD's and peripherals. Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install.

If these fail: test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Test your HD with maker's diagnostic/repair CD extended scan: HD Diagnostic

ok reset the bios but i couldn't change nothing just load opt defaults tried the disc and stopped agin so i tried my full Vista disc but it is a (64bit version) and sent in stright away first time. When asking for the product key i put in the key on the back of the laptop (this is a 32bit ver) but it fully installed. i tried to put win 7 32bit over the top but it said no !! so it installed because i make 2 partitions ( 30Gb and a 200GB ) or just because i use a full install disc not upgrade? also wouls a 64bit software activate with a 32bit key as i haven't tried yet as got to down load all the driver from Sony to get it to log on to the net?

It is not clear whether you got Win7 installed. If so, would you like to remove Vista now?

You report that you tried the first troubleshooting step I gave then gave up and installed Vista. What about the other steps? Each step needs to be completed to see if others are needed.

It should not matter if you clean install with an Upgrade version. If Vista is not on the HD at the time, wait until after install to insert the Product Key, then do the quick registry workaround given here first: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

You are entitled to use either 32- or 64-bit with each Win7 license.

Do not change out any drivers given by the installer or quickly updated by optional Windows Updates when you enable hardware auto-updating: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware You may need to put your wireless driver on flash stick or CD to get online to Update.

If any drivers are then missing in Device Manager, import them from the Support Downloads webpage for your model Computer or Device.

i did install vista 64bit on it with no problems but when i tried to activate it the key didn't work i expect because the key i put in was for a 32bit ver and not the 64bit ver (i didn't want to use my key for the 64bit as this is not my laptop. i can install my 64bit win 7 upgrade disc and goes in ok but the 32bit version will not install it just sits at 0% when installing so could it be that the disc is faulty??

As stated you can use either 32 bit or 64 bit with each license. The Product Key will activate either, but not both at the same time.

Where did you get the WIn7 32 bit installer which will not install? If you burned the DVD yourself, confirm the ISO integrity and burn another with ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Or try install using USB flash stick: install UltraISO trial version, on File tab Open ISO or DVD, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write. Boot under USB or HD's.

I've given you five other troubleshooting steps earlier which you still haven't responded to. This is an interactive Process - reply to each step with the results or additional questions, then there will be success or more steps.

ok i did reset the bios , i am unable to change the sata controller at all (it's all greyed out) the only way i formated the drive was to remove all the partitions make one partition then format then remove and then split into two. The software come from a microsoft partner so i can send it back and ask for a new one. The memory i left as is (3Gb) it maybe easyer if i just put in windows XP and then try and go over the top of that but i think the disc could be a no go. As i have noticed when i put in a working disc (one that will install i format 2 partitions and put it the first one. When i try to put in the disc which won't install i do the same size partitions and then when i click next a window pop's up saying that windows will add extra partitions to help install. Windows then adds a 100Mb partition but nothing is put in it.

The 100mb System Reserved partition is issued when you use the installer to partition. It holds you boot files and conveniently places the Repair console normally only on the DVD or Repair CD on the F8 Advanced Boot Options.

Be sure to select the correct partition you created to install Win7 upon and not the 100mb partition.

If the install continues to fail, try removing all but 2gb of RAM to try install as suggested earlier with no response.

It would be helpful if you would go through the troubleshooting steps given so far in an organized way to report back what happens after each so we can give your further steps. .
