Windows 7 with 32-bit System

Hi, everyone here!

I am LUCK.

I don't know whether my Windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit. How can I check it?

I only knew that my Laptop is Dell N5010 with 32-bit system, Ram 4GB and Core-i5.

Now my Laptop is 32-bit, can I install Windows 7 (64-bit)?

Sorry for being unaware of this question.

I am looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

My Best Regards,

LUCK

Hello, Luck

Hold the windows key and tap Pause\Break. This will open the system screen. Your answer is under System / System Type.

You should be able to change to x64 if it came with your system. Their should be two backup disks, one for x32 and one for x64.

If you do not have the disks, Dell should provide them. If you do upgrade to x64 I strongly recommend a Clean Install, Check the Tutorial section for instructions.

Hope this Helps,
Richard

Either go Start>Control Panel>System

or Start>rightclick Computer>Properties.

You need a 64 bit processor to run 64 bit Win7, and I would have at least 4gb of RAM.

Tips for getting a perfect clean reinstall - use the ones which apply: Reinstalling Windows 7

I right-click "My computer". I saw a dialogue saying that System Type: 32-bit Operating System. Does it refer to Windows 7 or System Type? Please explain in details because I have never used Windows 7 at all. I am new to it and prefer it. Thanks a lot.

From what Gregrocker said, it means that I must install Windows 7 (64-bit) with (64-bit System Processor). And I must install Windows 7 (32-bit) with (32-bit System Processor). Is it right?

that is not right
processor with 64bit instruction set can run windows 32bit and 64bit.
but only 32bit processor can not run 64bit windows
so its okay if you use 32bit and you see nothing wrong with it.. there is no need to install 64bit just because cpu supports 64bit..
but if there is reason for you to install 64bit (and your processor suports it as far as i know all i5 intel cpu supports 64bit) you can do it.
but as far as i know there is no way to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit.. only clean install.

ofcourse you need to check other system drivers if they support 64bit windows, not only cpu. (most new drivers have 64bit version)

Dear Vaidas3!

OK, I see!

But you said "i know there is no way to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit.. only clean install". It means that I will get 32-bit Processor to 64-bit Process if I know how to clean install. Is it right? Sorry for being unaware of s.th clear.

Hope you don't mind and feel free to explain to me more. Thanks a lot in advance!
