You may need SATA drivers for the XP installer to see the drive: SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD

Are you sure the XP installer is booting and not running from the OS?

Sometimes when the CD doesn't boot, it starts running from the OS in which case it may not see the drives and offer install to a Windows folder. Make sure CD is booting and not starting from Win7.

More likely you'll need the XP SATA storage controller for your chipset so the CD can see the HD's when booted.

    Code:
    Intel ICH7R/M, ICH8R/M, ICH9R/M or ICH10R/D S-ATA AHCI and RAID Controllers
    Intel ICH8/ICH9 S-ATA AHCI Controllers
    Intel ICH6M S-ATA AHCI Controllers
    Intel ICH5R S-ATA RAID Controllers
nForce2/3 SataRAID, nForce2/3/4 PataRAID and all nForce4 Intel Edition RAID
    nForce4 AMD, nForce 430/410 (MCP51) or nForce 590/570/550 (MCP55)
    nForce MCP73 SataRAID

In that case I would try the second option given. What happens then?

Installing XP from flash is rare since it rarely works, but seems you may have got it goin on.

    WinToFlash.com - View topic - Missing or Corrupt: hal.dll
Computer Repair Guide: How to Install Windows XP using a USB Drive / Flash Drive the EASIEST way
but none says anything about changing the location to where Xp will be installed

Was referring to the screen on the XP installer where you choose where to install it, or delete, repartition and format where you want it installed.

It appears from your screenshot you never made it that far but instead got a boot manager for XP installer, from which either of the first two options you might be able to proceed.

The best way to install WinXP is from CD.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.
SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot
    OR
SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD
On your driver CD, you will find a folder called ICH9R_IMSM_Makedisk

Also looks to me like selecting the first then second option from the pic you posted is the way to go.

Edit - select first option - then after a while it will reboot from the flash - now you select second option.
