Assuming it was a legitimate site you downloaded it from, you should have seen instructions on making the .iso file, which is then burned to disc.

I saw the .iso file download for the x64 version, but am unfamiliar with it. I spent the extra $15 to have that backup disc sent but it won't get here for 3-7 business days.

To access your Microsoft Store account, always use your Windows Live ID, not an alias you may have created.

Your receipt has been sent to (my email), which includes your product key.

That's what the receipt page says. I don't seem to find any instructions actually.

Edit: I didn't realize a disc was necessary. Do I need a disc?

I believe that same website (and our site here) have guides on taking the .iso file and making it a bootable flash drive, which would need to be 4 GB or larger.

You should have known you'd need some kind of install media, or else you wouldn't have gotten the back up disc. If you do want to install it sooner than waiting for your disc in the mail, just download the .iso and use your burning app's instructions for burning an image.

    Oh, thanks man.

Umm...I thought it would be that easy, but I can't find the .exe. And as to the .iso, I'm downloading it right now. I know a guy who can walk me through that. I know I'm probably being an idiot right now, so please bear with me.

Edit: You know what, I downloaded the 3rd file from the receipt page of my order and it was about 2 mbs and didn't do anything. Now I'm downloading the 3rd file from the link given to me in my email and it's about 76 mbs. I bet it'll work now. Don't know what the deal was.

Also the first time I downloaded the 3rd file it showed up as "s (1)" w/no extension. Now it is Win7-U-Retail blah blah.exe. Thanks for your patience and +rep for trying to help out.

It one of those three files, more then likely the one without the extension because you have the display of extensions turned off.

When you get the .iso downloaded, Burn to a blank DVD with ImgBurn (Freeware) at 4x speed with Verify on !

I got the download part fixed...nooooww:

Now I can't get the Windows 7-U-Retail-en-us-x64.exe to finish properly. It starts doing it's thing and then while preparing setup1.box it crashes and says Error encountered Unspecified error. What the crap? Anyone know what the deal is?

I'm probably just being ignorant, but why is this so hard? <-- Hey I was right!

Edit: Just me being stupid and not letting setup1.box properly copy to my desktop. I told you I was just being ignorant. :-P
