Before you start make your Recovery disk.
    1. Press <F9> during bootup.
Ensure to press <F9> only once during bootup.
    2. Select the language you use and click to continue.
    3. Repeat the step 1—2 in the previous section.
    4. Connect a USB storage device to your Eee PC and click Backup in the Recovery System dialog box to start the recovery files backup.
The size of the connected USB storage device should be larger than 16GB.
Memory cards are not supported for this function.
A dialog box appears as a reminder if you have not connected the USB storage device for system recovery backup to your Eee PC.
    5. Select a desired USB storage device if more than one USB storage device is connected to your Eee PC and click Continue.
    6. All the data on the selected USB storage device will be cleared. Click Continue to start the backup or click Back to backup your important data.
You will lose all your data on the selected USB storage device. Ensure to back up your important data beforehand
    7. The system backup starts and click OK when done.

    Than backup your DATA.

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

Once you have backed up your data, follow these steps...

    Using the Recovery Partition:

    1. Press [F9] during bootup.
    2. Press [Enter] to select Windows Setup [EMS Enabled].
    3. Select the language you want to recover and click Next.
    4. Read the ASUS Preload Wizard messages and click Next.
    5. Select a partition option and click Next. Partition options:

Recover Windows to first partition only.

This option deletes only the first partition and allows you to keep other
partitions, and to create a new system partition as drive “C”.Notebook PC User Manual 19

    Recover Windows to entire HD.

This option deletes all partitions from your hard disk drive and creates
a new system partition as drive “C”.

Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions.

This option deletes all partitions from your hard drive and creates two
    new partitions “C” (0%) and “D” (40%).

. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery
    process.

Thanx for the quick reply.... when i press F9 it takes me to the windows boot manager... it says choose an operating system to start or press tab to select a tool.... clicking windows 7 just starts my repair tool that fails because of a corrupt c:\ci.dll and pressing tab gives me one tool...windows memory diagnostic... i dont see these other options

You may need to press F9 during the POST boot, the first screen you see when you switch the machine on. You will notice as it starts you'll be given a a brief list at the bottom of the screen as to what options are available (e.g. BIOS Setup, Boot Manager etc).

If Factory Recovery won't run (and I would have the disks as a back up) from boot then you can order your Recovery Disks from Asus tech support, or find a Win7 installation DVD to install with the Product Key on your COA sticker.

Best is to borrow from a friend, unlock all versions if necessary. If you download from the web search for the official downloads from Digital Life, or verify the ISO integrity and scan with AV.

Here are steps to get a perfect clean reinstall of factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7

thanx heaps guys for taking the time for me.... this is where i get.... F9 goes to the SYS recovery options...select language...which i do... then the options...use recovery tools ,select OS to repair( or load drivers) which gives me a browse option through the windows folders or restore from image.... i choose first option...asks for passwords/usernames....all good then i get into start up repair where options of comand prompt/memory diag/sys image restore and start up repair...all no good to me... so im guessing i need the cd which i will order from ASUS... is it illegal to download a copy of windows if you own a version?

Why would it be illegal to download a copy of windows if you own it?

I would try the Startup Repair you found via F9 to see what issues it finds. You can also try from the Command Line in Recovery Tools these:
    Disk Check
SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

As F9 is working, you should also consider following the steps given earlier to run Full Factory Recovery. This restores your computer to the exact condition when it left the factory.

If you don't want the preinstalled bloatware and factory utilities but just want Win7 alone then you can consider the clean reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7
