When I tried that it showed a list of drivers and switched over to the blue Windows screen with a "Please wait..." prompt. Then it switched over to the password and user name screen.

Do you remember if you booted the DVD to install, and whether you provided a password when prompted or skipped that step?

Can you boot the DVD to install now? If it is a Win7 Installation DVD it should not stop you from accessing the REpair console or choosing Install Now with a password.

Good news! I realized that I wans't booting from the DVD. Now that it's doing that I am asking which partition I should format to reinstall? I have Disk 0 partition 1 (OEM reserved), disk 0 partition 2: recovery (system) and disk 0 partition 3: OS (primary) which I'm inclined to format. Any suggestions?

If the Recovery partition is intact you also have the option to run Dell full Factory Recovery: Dell Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings

If you want to clean reinstall without the factory bloatware, follow these steps to get a perfect OEM reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

You can consider deleting all partitions since OEM isn't needed with a clean reinstall, while Recovery may not run afterwards so be sure to make the Dell Recovery Disks beforehand so you have them if you ever want to restore to factory condition.

Hi Greg

If you let Windows 7 go sleep on the last reboot of install, the installer will ask for User & password.

I agree that this screen does not come up when reinstalling windows from a disc.

The only place i have seen this sort of menu come up is when trying to login to repair options through F8 - Repair your computer

Username and password
Hi. I just setup a windows 7 with WGM server, (workgroup Mail server) I control the pc via remote desktop. I have two questions. 1. I need to restart the pc every now and then to refresh WGM.
