Trying to switch to XP from windows 7

So I put an xp installer into my drive and everything was fine.

At the last step, it tells me I have this one error:


Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259 0x80004005


Now I have no clue what this is, but it's preventing me from installing xp.

Any help will be appreciated.

Are you switching to XP with a retail version of Windows 7 or an OEM version?

If it's the latter, you might want to check this link: Understanding Downgrade Rights

Where did you get the XP installer? Is it a retail disk? The error is associated with mass deployments.

Are you booting the XP installer correctly?

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.

Also, the XP cd I am using is from my mother's friend, who works with computers. It's not pirated, but it's not the official XP cd distributed by microsoft. It's just XP, not XP pro.

The windows 7 I am currently using is from a cd he has as well.

As for installing it correctly, all I have to do is just press next like 4-5 times and wait. Then I get that error message.

Is this XP which came preinstalled on the computer. What exact version is on the COA sticker? Does it match the version of the XP installer you were given?

If not preinstalled factory OEM, how do you plan to activate XP?

How did you activate the Win7 also given you by your mom's friend?

Please answer each of these questions fully now before we proceed.

The XP cd did not come pre-installed with the computer.When I first got the computer, it had windows 7 64 bit. I asked him to wipe my computer. So far, no change in OS.

Then it was too slow for me so he installed windows 7 32 bit (both versions were ultimate), and things were ok. Then again I didn't like it so I just wanted to put XP. He gave me the XP disc, but not the instructions on how to do it

If that didn't work, than I would just delete the windows 7 I have now and then install XP. I'm not sure if that is a good way

He activated that himself, but he left the CD for me to activate myself

You need to buy a copy of XP or Win7 so you know you have a legal Product Key to activate it. Your friend places you in legal jeopardy if he is installing pirated software on your laptop.

If this friend told you it is not pirated, ask him to produce the packaging with Product Key on COA sticker.

According to the specs posted this is an Acer Aspire 5517 which originally came with Vista, so you can always find a Vista installer for your licensed version to clean reinstall with the Product Key on the COA sticker attached to laptop . If it still has the Acer Recovery Partition you can attempt to run Acer e-Recovery, or order the Recovery Disks from Acer.
