Ok, I have confirmed that I get a similar flavored problem when trying to install sp1 for win7 ult 64 bit.

If I have 6gig tam, both windows update and network install of sp1 will give me error 0x8007000d data_invalid_error.

If I take out the 2x 1gig sticks to install sp1, it installs without problem.

Moral is yes, removing ram from pc will fix error 0x80070570 on fresh install of win7 ult x64 but you will also need to remove the ram to install sp1 either via win update or network install to avoid error 0x8007000d.

I am even tempted to leave my system on 4g ram till I can get my hands on 2 x 2g ram to go from 6 to 8 gig ram. I think if I try to install with 8g it would be ok. If not then go down back to 4g and if not again go down to single channel and just have 2 g ram on install.

    Regards,

Why are you installing Win7 and then SP1. Use the latest official Win7 installer with SP1 to save hours work.

Because I don't have a copy of win7 with sp1 unfortunately. Good chance to get the ironing done while sp1 installs ;-)

There are many other reasons besides wasted time why you want to install the lastest Win7. What is your licensed version?

Thanks for that, I'll make sure that I put that to good use for next time. Just finished the vanilla install. It's not so bad time wise - 2 hrs.

Go buy yourself a single 2gb dimm, install windows, install updates and patches, shutdown, put your 16gb back in, bobs your uncle and it will work. Win7 for some reason gives this error when u have more than 4gb ram.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes or overnight. If errors isolate the stick or slot using the steps in tutorial.

Remove all but one RAM stick to try install.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
    CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
    FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
    ACTIVE
    EXIT
    EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. We are creating the partition here to mark it Active which overcomes certain install failures.
