Windows 7: Need help with installing Windows 7

Both the stick and the DVD have worked on another computer (what I did was install Windows 7 onto the hard drive of my really old computer, then use the hard drive for my new one.) But it doesn't load up on the new computer. I formatted the hard drive twice, using this tool I've never seen from the advanced start-up part of Windows 7, and by using another OS to format it but not continuing with the installation. I think there is a newer BIOS update but I don't know how to update my BIOS.

Please follow each step given above to eliminate them one-by-one. RAM?

Nothing was said about formatting the HD. Against possible boot sector corruption it must be wiped according to the tutorial linked. The "Clean" command is sufficient.

If these fail, download the latest BIOS update and extract the Read Me file to see if it is clear enough that you want to attempt the BIOS Update. Someone here will help guide you through if necessary, or you can access your mobo tech support or forum to get step-by-step assistance.

You said that you've already run Win7 on this computer which was installed on another computer? If not, this can be done by SysPrepping the OS to remove all drivers before moving it back to problem computer: SysPrep to move HD to another computer. This may be necessary to run BIOS update from Windows which is the safest method.

The RAM works fine, well I think it does, because it's working on another OS. But I think the sysprep thing is the thing I need. I'll try it now, thanks for the info.

Alright I tried the sysprep thing, and it has the load bar which I think is from Vista, then it goes to the blue screen saying "Page fault in non-paged area"

Edit: These are the BIOS updates http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/bios.php?S_ID=450

but can anyone tell me how to update it without an OS?

You get that error when you try to start up HD on the problem machine after installing and SysPrepping it exactly according to the steps in tutorial?

That's a memory error. Did you try removing all but 2gb RAM to try install which was my first step suggested earlier? This often allows install to proceed. Try also swapping RAM.

There is a troubleshooting process to get past installation failures. You really have to work through them. When you skip to the last SysPrep step you may have overlooked something important like the RAM.

Well I only have 2x4GB RAM sticks that fit in this computer. All my other RAM is old and won't fit.

Remove one stick to try install. Then swap sticks. Test RAM.

I've tried it with that. Well there's 4 slots in my computer, two are white and two are red. Does it matter which one I use?

The color-coding normally is for RAM sticks installed in pairs. If you only install one RAM stick, install it in the first slot which is the one closest to the Processor.
