im going to give it a go now to rule out any hardware problems. i'll report back, think its possibly the lightscribe drive causing issues.

is there anyway i can boot from a usb if i can unplug the dvd drive?

SysPrep is run from the Win7 installer following the steps in the tutorial I posted in the troubleshooting steps I gave you.

Work through the troubleshooting steps one-by-one asking back any questions you have or report results. There are other steps as well which we can give you until the install works or you decide to move to SysPrep.

You may not need to disconnect DVD drive as flash stick can normally boot anyway, chosen from under USB or HD's.

You can write the DVD ISO to the flash stick using this tool with Win7 selected in the dropdown menu: Universal USB Installer

If you need to extract the ISO from DVD, use ImgBurn: ImgBurn - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

You can do both tasks at once if needed using UltraISO trial version: On File tab select Open DVD, on Bootable tab select Write Disk Image, Format stick, Write. Boot stick under USB or HD's.
