    Win7 reinstall UEFI problem


    I had a successful windows 7 installation on a Samsung spin point in UEFI. I recently purchased a crucial SSD and went to reinstall. When I go to install now it is installing in BIOS mode not UEFI.

    Here are my steps:
    Booted install media in UEFI mode
    converted SSD to GPT using Diskpart and verified
    Selected the SSD to install
    Finished install

    When it is finished it boots windows 7 in BIOS mode and the SSD has been converted back to MBR. I am not changing any of the steps that worked successfully for me before so I am not sure what is going on.

    The only thing that I think could be happening is that in the UEFI bios there is still an entry in the boot order for the windows boot manager even though that HDD is no longer in the system.

    How do I remove the Windows Boot Manager entry from the bios or how do I completely clear the bios of all boot information?
    (I don't care about any of my setting in the bios as I have them wrote down and can just go back in to change them.)

    The easiest way to reset BIOS is to power down, remove the power cord. Open the computer and remove the CMOS battery. Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to let all the caps drain.

    Put the CMOS batery back, connect the power cord and power on.

    You should get an error message about CMOS check sum or parity error, press F1 to enter Setup, F2 to continue, or something like that. Go into setup, change CMOS settings, save and exit.

    I already reset the CMOS but that did not clean the Windows Boot Manager from the boot order list.

    I see Windows Boot Manager is specific to UEFI mode (Google search). I have 0 experience with UEFI so I'm going to have to bow out of this. Hope someone else can help you.

    Thanks for the help I got it figured out.

    There was a problem with my bootx64.efi file, after enough googeing and testing I tried extracting the original bootmgfw.efi file from my original disk and tada! It works!

    What a weird issue, I don't know how there could have been a problem with the file I just copied all the files from the folder I keep them in to the flash drive and some how there was a problem with the transfer I guess.

    Anyway all is well with the world now so thank you for reading and posting.
