Can you plug the clone HD into a SATA port and change controller setting in BIOS to SATA?

If WIn7 won't boot, boot the DVD Repair console or Repair CD to run Startup Repair repeatedly.

If Win7 isn't detected by repair utility, open Command Prompt to type bootrec /fixboot and bootrec /fixmbr, then check again.

How would I do that. I looked for it and do not know how.
It's interesting you say this because i could not get my Vista recovery disk working one time about a year ago. Then I read somewhere that I had to change Sata to Ide to get the Vista recovery disk to boot.

I am right now using my old drive on my computer. It boots fine. So why would the MBR need fixing?

Sometimes when cloned or reimaged Win7 will not boot it requires Startup Repair. If installation does not show up in Repair console, running the bootrec commands can force it.

Well guys I owe you both some reps when I can . Yet I decided to get the Hitachi drive and use the HP firmware update and let it do it's thing. I have spent too long on this. Yes that link you gave me Theo looks like excaclty like what I should do. Yet it would take me another coupkle of hours and I would need Shoeless (BareFootKid) to help me and I might still have problems. It's better I don't tackle things this advanced just yet. So If HP wrote a bios script I will just have to bow to their Marraige with Hitachi. I will keep you both posted on how it turns out. Same BAT Channel next week.

Make sure no USB drives are plugged in.

Try this:
1) Use the Rebuild BCD in this tutorial:
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

Attachment 171748 Attachment 171749

than
2) Fix MBR.

I was hoping you would say, "no, I do not need to that," I need to fix the MBR.

OK.. I was just tired of changing out the hard drives but I will try.
If it does't work How will I get it back so I can use my old hard drive?
Do I just put back my old hard drive and repeat the same steps?
