Deleted windows7 partition unavailable

Hi,

I have a Lenovo 3000 G430 Laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic Edition installed. I wanted to re-partition my 250GB hard disk into 3 logical drives. I shutdown the system and change the order of boot preference to CDRom. I had a bootable CD with me along with FDISK utility on it. I boot my laptop using bootable CD and ran FDISK to delete the existing NTFS (Non-Dos) partition.

After deleting all the partitions, When I tried to create a new partition, it displays me disk unallocated space of 8GB only. After this I had tried several partition utility but all of them display disk unallocated space of 8GB only.

I have run into problem. Can anyone help me find and resolve the issue with Disk space reporting less unallocated space of 8GB? while the actual size of harddisk is 250GB.

Hello GPrasad, welcome to Seven Forums!

Edit: Windows Operating Systems cannot boot independently from an Extended partition / Logical drive it must be on a Primary partition for the System boot files to execute properly.

Windows will function perfectly from an Extended partition, the Windows System boot files must be stored on a Primary partition to execute properly.

There's good information you may find useful if this first tutorial linked below, then have a good look through the rest on the information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.
Clean Install : Factory COA Activation Key

information   Information

To start fresh with a clean installation or a clean install with an upgrade version of Windows 7, it may be best to over-write the Master Boot Record of any possible corruption and then use the Windows installer to create and format the partition(s) for installation, have a look at the "#6 clean" option of Method One in this first tutorial linked below.
Secure Erase / Wipe : Definition and Methods

DISKPART : At PC Startup

If you want to completely over-write the entire Hard Disk Drive of any possible malware infection and / or to get the best possible space to do the install to or just for security purposes, have a look at these tutorials.

Thanks Bare Foot Kid...for your useful information !

My key issue is reduced hard disk space displayed during partition creation. Although I have already deleted all the partition using FDISK utility earlier, I suspect the deleted NTFS partition are not available as unallocated. Currently only unallocated Disk space available is 8GB which is not correct as my hard disk size is 250GB.

I suspect the FDISK utility has not deleted the NTFS partition properly OR has not successfully able to mark the deleted partition as 'UNALLOCATED'. When I run Windows 7 installation disk, it displays me again only 8GB as unallocated as available for proceeding with partition/installation.

Any suggestion?

Yes, after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media wipe the entire HDD using the Windows installer and the diskpart clean all command.

I made an edit to my original post #2 above to go with these tutorials below.

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk mgmt drive map and listings, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu. We will give you the steps using the best tool for Win7 free Partition Wizard bootable CD since FDISK is an XP-era tool not ideal for Win7.

Why are you wanting Logical partitions if you only want three? I would make only the third Data partition Logical so you have the ability to expand it to as many sub-partitions as you want.

Is it your intention to rid of the Lenovo utility partitions, and have you considered using a Win7 installation DVD to clean reinstall Win7 to get a leaner better performing OS without the factory preinstalled bloatware and useless utilities which have better versions built into Win7.

With a clean reinstall you can set up your partitions after deleting all during install using the Win7 installer.

Here's how to get a perfect reinstall of factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7
