Boot Win 7 from a USB pen drive, is it possible?

    Hi to everybody,
I've just purchased a notebook HP touch smart 13" tm2-2101 sl (the one you can turn the screen and use it like a tablet) without the DVD reader.
I want to know if it's possible to create a bootable file to restart Win 7 after a reset of the system on a pen drive USB instead of the DVDs.
    Tx.

If you are talking about recovery disks (that restore the computer to factory state i.e. as it was when you unboxed it), check whether your recovery manager software has a usb option. Click on Start button, click All programs and locate HP recovery manager. Launch it and follow onscreen prompts, it'll probably let you create a usb recovery disk.

Newer HP netbooks/ultraportables do have this option. Only downside is they demand massive sized flash drives so you may need a 16gb-32gb drive.

If you dont get the usb option or dont want to invest in a large flash drive, you'll need to buy or borrow an external usb dvd burner and use that to create recovery disks.

You can also order recovery disks from HP for a nominal cost but again to use them you'll need a dvd drive.

If you have access to the Win7 installation DVD for your version, it's easiest to write it to flash stick using this tool with Win7 in dropdown menu: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3

Here are tips for clean reinstalling Win7 without the factory bloatware and useless HP utilities which have better versions built into Win7: Reinstalling Windows 7

You will likely need the touchpad software from the HP Support Downloads webpage for your model.
