Installation Error Can't find solution.

Ok, so during the week Win 7 Ultimate x64 got really buggy. ie - Internet explorer decided that it would open itself countless times before it froze my computer. Same would happen with Safari and endless amounts of tabs would open in Firefox. Sooo i backed up everything i needed, and decided it was time to start with a clean OS. I tried reinstalling Win 7 Ultimate x64 (With the same disc i used to install it last time) and it gets past the first part (Copying temp files) or whatever, it then tries to reboot, with success and the the mouse appears with a black screen and then an Error box pops up with (Application error - winpeshl.exe | The application was unable to start correctly, click ok to close the application|) the Error code was 0xc0000142. I restarted the computer to see what would happen, now i have an option to boot the Windows Setup or Windows 7. If i boot the setup some Username and Password screen comes up and ive got no Farrrrking clue what it is. I even called Microsoft and they were like "Errrmmm.. Try rebooting it Sir" So i hung up :L

Any suggestions?

That sure sounds like a virus to me. Do you have any other partitions besides the one your OS is on?

The best way to go forward is to do a complete wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive (HDD) to get rid of all the corrupt code; have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Sounds like you have a virus... or whatever...

Hope you have you OS on a SEPARATE partition /drive than your DATA as most likely you will have to delete ALL the partitions on the disc.

(You can try deleting just the OS partition, then do a full format-re-install. Suggest you run some A/V programs, apps that scan for bootsector infections that run from a COLD boot. EG: not from within the OS, but from a CD-rom, usb stick. Suggest you download, create CD, usb from another computer)

Suggestions:

Install from USB... and or try another cd/dvd drive.
Burn a fresh copy at lowest speed.
Confirm the MD5, hash of your install media if not retail.
Install fom COLD boot, not from within OS. You are installing from a COLD boot, not from within the OS?

Thanks guys. Yeah i ran my Trend Micro Titanium or whatever it is twice on full system scan, which scans USB's External HDD's the lot. It found nothing. HOWEVER - The amount of Web based threats has rapidly increased. 420 threats stopped in 3 days.

I tried running DBAN boot nuke, with no success, and even tried reinstalling Vista home premium that came with the computer, with the same outcome: Same error message, and the same Username and password screen and both times it never installed properly. Yes its one i bought and not built. Its a dell :L

Ive tried a fair bit, and couldn't think of anything else, so i came here

Considering buying a new HDD or even starting from scratch and building my own now.

Oh and now the buggy Windows 7 ultimate that was fine a week ago is coming up as Not genuine

What do you mean you tried DBAN with no success? Does it freeze or complete wiping the HD?

You need to wipe the HD with at least one set of zeroes to overwrite any infected or corrupt code.

Use the tutorial BFK linked to wipe your HD correctly then try install, let us know if further troubleshooting is required.

I got the same problem as "SoundManiac" but when i try to clean up the drive it doesnt work. when i type "clean all" i get this message " virtual disk service error : clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot, system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume." what can i do? please help thanks

The "clean all" cannot be run on a Windows "System" partition from within Windows, you have to boot the Windows 7 installation DVD to accomplish it; have a look at Method One of this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.
