I did everything up until "Custom Install". I do not recall selecting an option that would reformat the HD. I recall a notice that what was on the HD would be lost. HD reformat does not happen quickly; I think I should have noticed.

I am toiling with the Ultra ISO task. So Far I have not been able to create either a flash stick or a CD with an image of the install CD.
I have not cleared the BIOS. I have spent a lot of time in the bios studying its configuration however. When I do this (reset it), will it be returned to a Raid 5 configuration. After a HD failure, I brought it back with three individual drives.
Win7 is on a DVD, not a CD. How are you trying to burn a CD from the DVD using UltraISO?
Place DVD in drive, open UltraISO, select File tab, then Open DVD.
Once it shows the DVD as source, choose Boot tab, select Write Disk Image.
Now in the box which opens, make sure flash stick is detected in the dropdown.
Select Format button, then Write button.
Now boot under USB or HD's using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.
I have long been confused by the variety of DVDs and CDs available and I guess this is another case. Being an old fossel, I have yet to make the transition into this extreme high tech world.
I am not even sure I have the right hardware now; but I must because I did get part way into the install using the Windows 7 disc.
Are IsoBurn and UltraISO equally usable in this discussion?
PS: Regardless of the answer: I now have a 4G flash stick in the other computer undergoing what I hope to be an image burn of Windows 7 Home Premium (onto the flash).
Other than trying to boot from it, how do know that I have a successful transfer?

PS Again: I may have the answer. There now appears to be alternating activity at both the flash stick and the DVD which I interpret to probably be a verification process that hopefully alleviates my concern.

If I was to decide that I wanted a dual boot configuration, does the following link detail what I need to do to repartition my hard drive?
I have 140GB drive with nothing on it except XP. If I was to dual boot, this is where it should go, RIGHT???
Follow Method One here to shrink XP in DIsk management, then boot Win7 installer to install to install to partition you created: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP
Reboot while tapping the Asus F8 key to get a BIOS Boot Menu, look for the flash stick listed under USB, Removable or HD's. Choose it to boot. If there is any failure please post back everything that transpires including exact wording of error messages.
Let's get installer to boot because if you install Win7 from XP it will take another letter permanently whereas installed from boot it will always assume C no matter which OS you're booted into.
Not really. The installer will format the chosen partition whether you do or not.
Are you able to boot the flash stick yet? Does it show your partitions and allow you to choose one?
I have the flash stick - if I can take the Ultra Iso verification results at face value but I have not yet attempted to boot.
Sorry that I am so slow at this but I have missed so many details in my previous attempts. There is so much valuable data available in this forum. I am even learning a lot about XP. Example: I just now learned that I can reformat selected drives from Storage/Disk Management.
