    Installation Problem

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on an LS800, and I keep running into the same error message: "Windows was unable to update the boot configuration. Installation was cancelled." Since I was running a clean install, I set the BIOS to boot from the CD first, then the HDD.

    Computer specs:
    Motion LS800, 1.2 GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, 30GB HDD.
(Note: other users have reported no problems installing Win7 on the same machine, so I don't think it's the hardware. I also have the most recent BIOS update).

Anyone have similar problems, or have any ideas? Any help you could give would be most appreciated. I have heard good things about Win7 and was looking forward to beta-testing.

Hi, Luke3120, and welcome to the forum.

It sounds like your HD may have some inherent corruption issues - do you know the HD manufacturer?

Motion uses Hitachi and Toshiba 1.8" drives. Not sure which one I have, will look it up when I get home. However, I have been running XP Tablet without any issues.

It *might* be a recovery partition in the front of the drive, or else something else that is causing it fits - normally this should not be a problem.

Make a screen shot of the disk management view of your laptop as well....

    John,

I tried reloading Windows 7, and at the install screen checked the "Repair Computer" option. It ran a quick scan and reported that it found improper or corrupt boot components on the drive. I hit the button marked "repair & reboot." Lo and behold, after rebooting Windows 7 installed without a hitch!

I am now happily exploring Windows 7. Thanks for your help; much appreciated.

    Hey,

I've been having a very similar problem, however the "repair computer" option draws a blank and tells me that it could not detect any issues. I'm attempting to dual boot windows 7 with the vista that i currently have installed. I've tried installing three times now but continue to get the "Windows was unable to update the boot configuration. Installation was cancelled." error after the system reboots while installing windows 7 and is attempting to "complete installation". Thanks in advance for any advice.

Problem with ins. Windows 7 x64

HI i have a problem and i need help with it. When i double click on setup.exe some strange message shows it says "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you`re running. Check your computer`s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher". Btw i have Windows 7 x32 bit on my PC.

You need to boot from the DVD to install Win7. You cannot install it from the 32 bit OS environment.

If you do not receive a prompt upon restart to "Hit any key to boot from DVD" then reboot and Enter BIOS setup using key shown on first bootup screen. Set DVD drive to boot first, save settings, then restart and boot DVD.

Yes i know that and i did that to. When i did that it says ''Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key''. I ofc have DVD in my DVD ROM, i have 2 DVD of that window and with both is the same... Is it because of DVD or my computer?

This issue can often be because an external USB device is trying to boot. Unplug externals. Check in BIOS that USB devices are moved in Boot order to after DVD and HD.
