    Product Key not working?

I reinstalled Windows 7 with the same I had before (Professional, 32bit). But when I entered my Product Key it said, "The product key you have entered appears to be a default product key and cannot be used for activation. Type a different Windows 7 Professional product key."

    Any ideas?

What kind of windows license do you have? Retail/system builder (bought from shop) or preinstalled-preactivated (royalty oem)? Also run this tool, click Copy, paste into notepad and upload/paste the .txt file/results here.

You have installed retail windows but not inputted the product key. Thats why your windows is in the initial grace period. Look at the retail package, there would be a product key on it. Thats the one you need to enter.

I see. If you're telling the truth, you've been taken for a ride. The key that is installed on your computer and which is also presumably the one you've been "given" is the pro default key. Thats the embedded key that makes windows work in the grace period i.e. before the actual product key is inputted, its time bombed and cannot be used after a defined time (max 120 days).

Catch hold of the seller, if you've paid for this license and demand a refund. If you havent paid, well, just go and buy a genuine license.

I know that you are frustrated but your log is saying that your key is not entered properly and that your on the "trial" period of your install.

I would contact microsoft and tell them the key and they will let you know what is wrong.

I had Windows XP x86 on a Dell Inspiron 9400. Default operating system of the system. I have Windows Vista that works perfect and installed it, Windows Vista Professional x86. And of course like anyone else I wanted Windows 7 so my brother got a copy of Windows 7 from his school and he installed Windows 7 Professional x86. He gave me the code to reinstall it if ever needed along with the install disc (i.e. [removed by admin]) And enter it and it gives you the default key prompt. So I'm guessing that is the wrong code?
