    Laptop/Desktop upgrade and switch around

I've taken a look around the forum and got some good ideas but would appreciate something specific to my situation. I have a desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium (Retail Upgrade) and a laptop with Vista Home Premium (OEM). As a birthday present I've been given Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade. I want to end up with this on my desktop but I want to transfer my W7 Home Premium to my laptop. I have been told that you can't move the licence but the forum seems to suggest that a retail licence can be moved. If the logistics require I have an unused separate Vista installation on my desktop which could be updated. Is this switch around possible?

Thanks Bare Foot Kid - I've taken a look at the tutorial and it all looks possible. I guess I'm going to have quite a busy weekend working through this!

You don't need to have the qualifying OS on the machine to use Upgrade version. If no OS is present when you install just leave Product Key blank during install then afterwards do the quick registry workaround in the tutorial posted above.

If an OS is on the HD, the installer will see it at boot to allow use of Upgrade version key up front, even if you go on to use Custom>Drive Options to delete all partitions, create new ones, and format before install.
