    Unknown User Account

    Hi,

I've noticed something a bit strange with an unknown user account on my system. Can someone help explain where this may have come from? I have no recollection of creating this account, and it is not possible for someone to have created this account on my system,

    Background:
I am the only User on my PC. I always log on with the same password protected User account, and only I know this password. The system is well protected : UAC always on, Windows always updated. MSE and Malwarebytes both resident and always updated.

    Symptoms:
If I navigate to Control Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\User Accounts\Manage Accounts, I see this:

    Unknown User Account-capture1.png

If I navigate to Control Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\Parental ControlsControl Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\Parental Controls, I see this:

The UpdatusUser is completely unknown to me. Recently, I have been running Ubuntu 11.04 and Mint 11 inside VirtualBox. For those two Linux OS's I created a user account....but this is inside the virtual Linux OS's. Could this unknown Windows 7 user account be related to the user account created for the Linux OS's?

I have not noticed any strange behaviour on my PC, but to be safe, I have run an on-line scan using ESET. As expected, nothing has been picked up.

Can anyone offer any advice on trouble-shooting this?

    Thanks,
    Golden

Update : Im still trying to track this down, and I have seen suggestions its related to an nVidia update - can someone with a recent nVidia update see if this account has been created on their system? Browse as shown in the image below.

    Update:

OK. I can confirm this is related to nVidia software updates - it really annoys me that nVidia seems to feel the need to create a hidden account with full permissions (you only see it if you click on Parental Controls - most odd). I guess the solution is to uninstall the nVidia update, but I'll let you know.....

    Solution:

Under Management, right-click and delete the User account.

LOL, I see talking to yourself can be helpful. I have nVIDIA too but no UpdatusUser as you did. But I turn off auto updates on everything except Windows.

Yep, thats the reason you don't have it - that User account is utilised to deliver updates for NVidia. A rather sneaky trick to create a hidden user account without informing you. :)

Lol, I have 3 user accounts but only the disabled guest account shows up under parental controls! In fact, this is the reason I ended up joining the forum. I have since given up trying to fix it.

Thanks Ron. Perhaps you might have a word with my wife? She holds the opposite view!
