Keeping programs after a windows 7 upgrade.

Hi everyone,

At the moment I'm running a computer with windows vista.
I want to upgrade to Windows 7, but I have a lot of programs installed on my Vista (that also are compatible with windows 7). Many of these programs work on a license you have to buy via the internet and I don't want to reļnstall all these programs and explain to the developers that I upgraded and need a new key.

Is there a way to upgrade and keep all my programs available ?
Like Office, Nero, Neat Image, Photoshop, etc.
I've looked into the "easy transfer" from windows itself, but I just don't wanna take any risks.

Anyone any info about this ?

Thanks in advance.

64-bit Windows 10 Pro

Hello Sonicje,

Yes. You could just do a upgrade install from within your Vista to Windows 7 as in the tutorial below to have everything in Vista transfer to Windows 7 during the upgrade install.

Upgrade Install with Windows 7

Hope this helps,

You're most welcome. Be sure to run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" in the tutorial before upgrading to help make sure everything is compatible for Windows 7.

Keeping Windows Genuine
More often than once I have started up my machine and had Windows tell me that it failed the genuine test. Sure, most often I can just restart and all is OK, but that is a pain. Isn't there a way, once determined to be genuine to "lock" that in to the installation? Regards, Chuck Billow
