Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.
Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.
    HD Diagnostic
Which is Not the Acer Recovery.
how do I check the hardrive? I'm pretty stupid when it comes to PC's. I hope it doesn't involve opening anything up? lol
You will need to now HD Drive manufacturer.
Than download the manufacturer tool & run.
Do the HD Drive pass, all tests?

the hardrive failed the quick test but passed the full test. the quick test had an -03 smart read error. the full test had no issues

Find a Win7 retail installation DVD for your version to clean reinstall with Product Key on COA sticker, which is a much superior install anyway. Details in my signature link below.

chkdsk only repairs Software file problems, not hardware problems.
