Dual Boot Menu Problems

I have exactly the same problem... I have my Win XP partition assigned on D: in My Computer and Windows 7 with C: however, I can't start windows XP and I can't get the boot select screen.

I've read the forum and everyone says about Easy BCD. It doesn't show me the Win Xp. Also, I think I don't need to change the drive letter, since Win 7 is C: and XP is D: but still, I can't get the screen and the XP boot.

I'd love to download the files that fixed the same problem here... or, this would be solved by reinstalling XP ?? I have no problems with that; it was a fresh installation after all.

Anyway... will this happen again? If I get XP to work, I think I have to reinstall 7 very soon since I'm using a "not that legally activated" copy (before it was released the official beta) and want to change. I will have XP installed and working, and when I reinstall 7, will I have problems again?

    Thanks!

    Hello juanpablo1313.

Just use your XP disc to do a repair of your XP to get XP booting; then install EasyBCD and you'll also need to install this .NET Framework Version 2.0 then all you have to do is use this to add Windows 7 to the boot menu; this works with 7 also.

    Hello...

Like i've mentioned earlier on this thread:

    Open CMD (run as administrator)

    type:

    2. bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP"

    3. bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=D:

    4. bcdedit /set {ntldr} path \ntldr

    5. bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast

    Reboot and you're done.

(Note: if you get a "ntldr already exists" at step 1 above, type bcdedit /delete {ntldr} /f to delete any previews entries and start over from step 1)

Isn't a full XP repair too much for just a menu entry?

    Thanks both for answers

    But didn't work... :s

First I've tried "limneos" solution. It did fixed the boot screen: now I was getting it and was able to select OS from XP and 7. However, when I selected XP, it didn't started. It shows:

Windows failed to start. This might be due to recen hardware or software changes... (blah blah....)

    File: /ntldr
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

    (etc..)
This was on the Boot screen loader. The system never did make it into XP.

Then, I decided to repair XP with the CD. So I did, but there was NO entry of XP to repair. (?) So I just reinstalled XP in the same partition. It did started. So I restarted my PC and, guess what? Now Windows 7 wasn't starting.

So, I inserted the 7 DVD and "Repair Startup problems". So, restart and now 7 was booting from the boot screen. So, I restarted again, and this time selected XP on the boot screen... and.... guess what? Yes, XP was not starting with the same problem explained before.

So, it seems this boys don't like to be together.

Anyone can help me? I REALLY need the XP partition since I work with audio there, and need to finish very soon some projects to deliver. I've wasted enought time already

I just... want.. I don't know, to be able to re-format the whore Hard Drive to make it as good as new? Because this problem stated when I inserted the XP CD and decided to delete All partitions, and make them all over again. I think this went wrong since I also have noticed that I hae like 5 GB less of space.

Thanks again if anyone can help me!

    FI-NA-LLY

I got it to work. Here's what I did, I case someone needs it.

After screwing things even more with EasyBCD, I followed "limneos" steps to recover the boot screen from 7, then I downloaded this files, I copied them into the XP root folder, then restarted and voila!

The Windows 7 partition showed as "Windows Vista" in the boot screen (funny, isn't?) so I changed that with EasyBCD.

    That's all, bye!

hey guys i have a small "issue" again. just wondering. i think to get win7 and xp booting alongside i had to install the win vista boot manager or smth so now i dont see the win7 start animation anymore but the ugly green progress bar from vista. is there any quick fix for this? its nothing really important, would just be happier if it would be the orbs again :>
