You don't currently have permission to access this fold

Hey Everyone

I recently just did a complete new install from Windows 7 7227 to Windows 7 7600 RTM.

The issue is
I have 2 HD's installed on My Computer. One is System (for my OS) and one is Logical (for my stuff). Before I did a complete install and was running on Windows 7 7227, I had My Music folder attached to a folder I made with other music on it, on my other HD (Logical Drive) so if I reformatted, I would still have My Music on my other drive.

But, now that I've reformatted and did a clean install, I've tried to attach my folder with my music in it to the My Music folder and it just keeps seem to be giving me an error prompt, so I went into my other HD and opened my music folder and now I can't seem to play any music tracks that's inside the folder.

I've no idea why it's doing this, can someone help me, I can't seem to access them.

The error it gives me is

You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder.

I've went through the procedure that it gives me to get permission but when I applyed it, it only does it to the folder, not the sub folders or files. Can anyone help me to restore it back to the previous version so I can fully access it without any problems.

Thank you for the reply, however, I followed your procedure and I'm still getting the exact same error for the subfolders inside it.

Hi Gareth,

I take it you did this: check the box: Owner of underlying containers and object.

Can you post a screenshot for me? This is what you have to do.

rightclick folder, chose properties, chose security tab, click advanced.

Now make a screenshot with the "prnt scrn" key on your keyboard.

Now open paint and while holding the ctrl key , press V

This will paste the screenshot.

Now save it and post it here.

Hey Gareth, I just remember an old trick.

Change the name of your music folder to "my music2"

In the same level as where this folder is, create a new folder named "My Music"

This folder will automatically have all your credits.


Now go into your old music folder, and select all folders and files (ctrl a)

Now cut them (ctrl X),

now go into your newly created "My Music" folder and paste all the files. (ctrl V)

All the folders and files will automatically get the same credentials as the top folder.

I did what you said and now all the folders that I transfered all have a lock on them now in the new music folder.

Looks like standard procedures don't apply to your disk, lol.

No worries. we'll get there.......... eventually.


Ok lets do this.

Go to Computer. Rightclick on your d: drive.

select properties -> select the security tab again.

In the "group or usernames" box, is your username there?

and does it have all the rights? full control etc...?

that's correct.

In that security tab under the "group or username" box click the edit button.

Now click on add

type your username and click "check names".

click ok, and select full control, and press ok again, now it will add your credits to all the folders and files.

This can take a few seconds to several minutes, depending on the amount of files.

When it's done, click a few more times on ok, untill all the tabs are gone.

Now it should be ok.
