I would install your software to C: & save your Data to D:.

Data? What do you mean by this? Install my games programs ( CS5, Fraps) into C: and music pics documents into D?

I would not install programs to a separate HD or partition since they write registry keys which integrate themselves into the OS, so should be kept intact on one partition for imaging purposes.

Best to move the User Profile containing all of the data folders, or only the active User folders. This way they create a data partition that can be backed up along with the OS, but if you need to reimage the OS the data is current and waiting in it's partition "vault."

    Your post is confusing.

    Do you have two partitions?

Or do you have a 100 GB partition and 1.2 GB of unallocated space?

Or do you have something else?

A picture of Disk Management would help.

Depending on what that picture looks like, you may be able to extend using C using Disk Management. If not, you should be able to extend using Partition Wizard bootable disk.

Post a picture of your Disk Management window.

If you have unallocated space to its right, then extend the 100gb OS partition this way: Partition or Volume - Extend

Then you can create the data partition in the remaining unallocated space: Partition or Volume - Create New

Do you have an OS on the system now?

If not, "Bootmgr is missing" message is to be expected when the empty HD attempts to boot.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? If so confirm ISO integrity and burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Set DVD drive first to boot in BIOS setup, reboot, do you get "Press any key to boot DVD" prompt? What is the exact error message given?
