Problem updating

my college allows us students to install for free genuine windows software.i downloaded windows 7 from the website with the product name windows 7 beta.after installing i could see in my lower right corner the following

For testing purposes only.Build 7000

i used windows update, all updates were installed but i can still see the messege in the lower right corner

i read on the internet that the last build is 7600.16385 or something like that,but my build is still 7000 from the message i see on my screen.
why isint my build the last build even if windows update tells my i have all my updates done

Hi Spleshman and welcome,

Updates from Windows Update don't work that way. You won't get different builds from Windows Updates. Those updates are for such things as general stability and security.

You have to download a different build if that's what you want. I would suggest you get Windows 7 RC while you still can and run that until you're able to purchase Windows 7 when it's made generally available.

is there any way i can install thoes builds without reinstalling the hole system?i already installed my programs i was using on windows xp and dont realy want to do this again.
i downloaded the OS from msdn AA

If you're running the beta (Build 7000) there, you can do an upgrade install (repair install is the same thing) with the 7100 RC build. it will keep your programs and files. Just burn the 7100 build to disk that you downloaded and follow the tutorials instructions.

It already has. 7600.16385. It's the RTM (Release to Manufacturing) finalized version. But it isn't available officially yet. Only by mean we can not discuss here. If you want more information on when you'll be able to purchase it see here: When will you get Windows 7 RTM?
