If it is not showing in Explorer - have a look in Device Manager.

Click View > Show Hidden Devices - expand DVD/CDRom drives.

See if you can rt click it and uninstall it from there.

OK back. No I did not delete D:
I find in BCD an entry: Name: Windows Recovery Enviorment (Recovered)
Recovery Windows Device: Partition = D: (93111MB)
I left that alone. then Diskpart
list volume
Vol 0 I = DVD
Vol 1 J = DVD
Vol 2 C = Volume-6 48GB = disk 0 partition 1
Vol 3 E = Volume-4 58GB = disk 0 partition 2
Vol 4 F = Volume-5 78GB = disk 0 partition 3
Vol 5 G = Volume-7 24GB = disk 1 partition 1
Vol 6 H = Volume-8 34GB = disk 1 partition 2
Vol 7 D = Volume-1 90GB = Disk 1 partition 3 -labeled Volume-1 C:

now I also ran list disk partition, and above is actually what I find.
D: the fake CD Device is acutally Volume1-90GB C: windows 7

It seems that ASRock and BIOS will really allow things to be come jammed up tight.
I also notice my old IDE HDD on the IDE DEVICE is not found or seen
so I know it has nothing to do with the MESSed up Drive indicators.
starting to get confused but then I am seeing some lite- The HDDs go back to Win98 ME - beta test Whistler - then XP beta test Vista then Vista Beta test Win7. not Win 7 only.

Sorry, I thought you wrote for #4, prior to executing #5:

4. Change to the drive labelled Volume-1 from above output example c: may not be c:

and, I thought that was a HDD...

My error....

No problem. Every thing still seems to be working OK. I still have the CD Device=D: and even going to only 1 HDD. it remains... I'll live with that.
bcdedit gives;
Windows Boot Manager
identifier {bootmgr}
device unknown
description Windows Boot Manager
locale en-US
inherit {globalsettings}
default {current}
resumeobject {7800cce8-7c49-11de-bc70-801ac4a4f209}
displayorder {current}
toolsdisplayorder {memdiag}
timeout 5
Windows Boot Loader
identifier {current}
device partition=C:
path \Windows\system32\winload.exe
description Windows 7
locale en-US
inherit {bootloadersettings}
recoveryenabled Yes
osdevice partition=C:
systemroot \Windows
resumeobject {7800cce8-7c49-11de-bc70-801ac4a4f209}
nx OptIn
I wish the identifier
device unknown (wish it read partition=C:
description Windows Boot Manager
but recon i can live with that....
The help has been SUPER DUPER and I have really learned a lot for the assistance.

will bcdedit -store c:\BCD -set Partition=C:
get rid of device unknown or is it
bcdedit -store c:\BCD -set Device Partition=C:

On the N: you'll find bootmgr

Copy it to C:

in BCDedit change "device partition=N:" to "device partition=C:"

that's it.
what is the correct cmd to do this.
I do understand 1st save/export the BCD so if it does not turn correctly I can import if all fails. and does not read correctly.
