I believe that the: 5, 6, and 7 commands won't work, while at the C:\ cmd prompt.
The executable 'bootrec.exe' is on the DVD, not on the HDD...
    FWIW
That why in 2 I said boot from the DVD.

Yes, I did boot from DVD.

    3. insert DVD and booted to DVD
    4. Disk Volume - List (suprise to me)
    a. Vol 0 DVD with win7
    b. Vol 1 DVD empty
    c. Vol 1 H:
    d. Vol 2 E:
    e. Vol 3 F:
    f. Vol 4 Volume = N: which was not plugged in.
    g. Vol 5 D:\85 GB (where did this come from).
    h. Vol 6 I:=Printer on USB

    /fixMBR - sucessful
    /FixBoot - Sucessful
/RebuildBCD scanned for windows installation: 0
    sucessful.
It will not boot unless #2 SATA HDD is plugged in.

Bit stumped really Not sure what's going on as from your screenshot of your disk configuration early you should be seeing the three windows partitions C: G: and H:
48.97, 58.55 and 78.88 Gigs but your showing a 85.20 gig partition and the only one of that size that you have is on Disk 1( when there all pulled in) which also includes N: the system partition.

OK, wow, took some time... but with all the suggestions, I took the plunge and
    1. installed Acronis Disk Manager
    2. figured how to get N: set so I could expand it.
    3. N:is now 90GB. renamed Volume-1 =C:
    4. Volume-2 = E: same Dlownload program
    5. Volume-3 = F: same all Vista Stuff
    6. Volume-4 = G: same Mirc and Games
    7. Volume-5 = H: same emails and personal stuff.
    8. Volume-6 = I: old C:=windows 7
    9. Volume-7 = J: same Movies
    10. Volume-8 = Win7 stuff

Now I have all the notes, do you think it would be safe to locate D: again, and DELETE it. with Diskpart?

Curious result. Not easy to follow exactly what you did and in what order.

From your earlirer posts , it seems the partition Table on the HD containing C was incorrect.

The partition manager you used ( Acronis ) may have fixed that.

With Acronis Disk manager - it allowed me to expand the 5GB drive when I get it names - auto came up with N: that is where all the System files were stored. backup boot bootmgr and all. so i figured it I had to have Disk1 plugged in to boot, then I might expand that partition and name it. so to the 85GB partition, and merged it with N: then I had N:90GB partition. Win7 still booted. unplugged Disk0 and win7 booted. so I changed all the volume names to match with N:90GB to new Volume-1 C:
I still can not use Dits hidden some where and only diskpart list volume shows it... when I boot to DVD -cmd prompt - diskpart - list volume.

Then after all partitions were named -my satisfaction- i opened Acronis True Image and restore my last backup.tib to N:-named C: (Volume-1)
when acronis rebooted it booted correctly into New C:

normally when you boot let it finish. then start --> type msconfig.exe -->
wait for popup --> move to Boot.--> there you should see two (2) os's and also a TIME to allow BOOT. change the BOOT TIME to 10. that ='s 10 s on the boot loader to show you either XP or Win7
If you want to always have Win7 when you see
XP and Win7 as OS's to choose.... click win7 then click default.
you will still have 10s to choose or simply allow your default choice to load.

To get rid of D: . Go to Disk Mangagement and remove it there. Scroll down to the bottom half down and right click on the left hand square next to the drive letter and use change drive letters and paths.
