Windows 7: Windows 7 installation issue

23 Oct 2011   #21

It would help if you'd explain more fully why you want to repair Win7 in D.

Can you boot into both Win7 using the Dual Boot menu? But D only boots into Startup Repair, correct?

To attempt to repair Win7 on D, boot the Reinstallation DVD, select Repair console on Second screen, accept any offered Repair, if none is offered select the D install to repair.

If Win7 on D won't start at reboot then boot back in and follow these steps to run SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot to see if you can repair the damaged or missing System File. You may need to run it several times.

Your boot files are currently on C, but we can help you move them back and then delete C, resize D into that space if that is what you decide. Hopefully Win7 on D will reclaim C letter once the new install is deleted.

Windows 7

I have Dell Recovery Disks stored in my Pen Drive.
Can I install this to bring back the system to the Factory Setup levels???

Is this a bootable USB flash stick that was set up using a Dell application? If not it may not boot and run to completion.

If these are stored ISO's for Recovery CD's, burn them to CD using ImgBurn at 4x speed, or Windows Image Burner.

Yes they should restore the computer to Factory Condition so back up your files and gather your program installers.

If they fail you still have the Reinstallation DVD to get a superior clean reinstall, or you can order Recov disks from Dell.

You already have a full Win7 installation DVD from Dell which you used to clean reinstall. That is all you need for a clean reinstall.

Do you want to keep the clean reinstall you did, fix the one you had before, or run full Factory Recovery to include the preinstalled bloatware which comes with the Dell from factory?

You have gotten detailed instructions for operations representing hundreds of dollars of repair, reinstallation or recovery help at any shop, yet you change your mind and ask for something new every time you post.

Please make up your mind.

Windows 7

Good morning all...
I am sorry for asking different questions.
I am little bit confused of what should do in this case.
Now, I managed to repair the windows (original) in D drive. Now both windows are working fine.
Actully, I dont want to keep 2 windows 7 in my machine.
I have no idea which windows to be removed and how?
I dont want to waste the space and dont want to reduce the speed/performance of my PC.

Your recommendations/suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you,

Why don't you run with the Win7 on your D drive for a few days to make sure the performance is good, or we can help you fix any other issues.

Then when you are sure we can give you the steps to recover the System boot files into D, delete C and Resize Win7 into that space - unless you decide you want to keep C.

Meanwhile read over this tutorial which is roughly how it is done: Partition : Recover Space Used by an Older OS
