Did you check for a newer BIOS update for your model on it's HP Support Downloads webpage? This may allow you to use all 3tb on the HD.
If not install Partition Wizard and run Check File System on all partitions on the 3tb to see if it will find problems that get the rest recognized.
No didnt look on HP page will do now to take a look I even left message on Seagate site but got no reply.

This isn't something I've dealt with personally, but I believe that if you wish to use an HD larger than 2TB, it must be set up as GPT (rather than with an MBR). If you wish to use it as a Windows boot drive, the motherboard must use EFI rather than the traditional BIOS.

Some motherboard makers have a utility to permit the use of large HDs on older systems. Asus calls theirs "Disk Unlocker":

I believe that Asus made the motherboard in your PC, but I don't know whether Disk Unlocker will install on an OEM board.

Thanks guys it would seem I cannot get the 3tb no update to bios for Windows7 and no update for the old Vista either for this mother board so will have to wait until I decide to change motherboard guess wish I had realised when I went for the 3tb I could have gone for 2tb and that might have worked.

I have a very old HP computer with masses of space inside to work and I may really upgrade that one but I want to keep the XP on it and get another hard drive for Windows7 but its going to be pricey as will need new motherboard, new graphics card, new processor in fact everything but I just like the fact that it has plenty of space to move around in when stuff needs doing so to me it will be worth it. The only update I saw for bios was not for my version. I even took out the CR2032 as someone suggested that might reset the bios but it didnt.
It said on HP site when I went into the details if your version of Windows isnt showing in the drop down menu then there are no updates find that a bit weird. That HP site has gone a bit weird half time you find you are in another country if you blink.
I am a bit annoyed did leave a message on the site of the store that sold me the Seagate after he said it would work I had my old Seagate with me to show him what was in my computer and told him what my computer was. They never had the decency to reply to my complaint about their staff member who told me duff information.
The Seagate same size as I had in my computer 500gb was half the price of the 3tb. So would have saved about £50 and really I didnt need to have bought the Windows disc but not worried about that cos I love this Windows7. My computer has an media drive of 500 too that can be removed.

There's also a couple of HD firmware updates including one for Seagate if this is a HD which came with the PC. A Utility pertaining to Seagate is also there. Since all of human knowledge is in Google but it only depends upon how you ask the question, pose the problem different ways also in Google to see if it gets any hits.
If I were you I'd partition the new 3TB hard drive so OS gets loaded on 1st, smaller partition. I'd make the "Master" partition about 100-150GB. That way, when you need to reinstall the OS (again at some future time) all your date files may remain untouched on the 2nd, 3rd ete. partitions.
