    change from Ubuntu to Windows?

Hi guys, I'm trying to load Windows 7Ultimate over an already installed Linux Ubuntu 10.10 os. Now, I am the opposite of a tech head...techno-phobe! I can not seem to get any response from the disk! How do I disable Ubuntu and load Windows . I don't mind loosing Ubuntu as all my files are saved to a flash drive thing. Um, make any replies idiot proof for the undeveloped tech!

    Thanks

Hello rnapier, welcome to Seven Forums!

The best way to get completely rid of Linux is to run a wipe of the entire Hard Disk Drive to over-write all the Linux code and create a single partition to install to before you start the Windows 7 installation, have a look at the information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, then boot the Windows 7 installation media to use Step One of this tutorial at the first link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive / Solid State Drive.

Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
    • If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.
Either way, running the "clean all" then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

my part is a bit confusing. first i installed a Linux Ubuntu 9.04 server version. i couldn't work it out well so i thought to my self that i needed to change my OS, which windows 7 came in mind. I got it downloaded ready to install it from my USB 2.0 flash drive and it didn't work telling me disk error and some other occasions missing operating system. so i burned the whole thing on a DVD and as for this one it does not even detect any disc with an W7 OS on it. I later checked to find out that it didn't have an autorun like my other OS's do. What do I do? How Can I get to run this I'm So depressed and need some f^%$ing help! Thanks.
