Align partition containing Windows 7 system = huge headache

    VERY curious - I use the paid v4.2 and it wouldn't keep alignment of an existing partition. I'm sure there's some obscure techical reason why yours does and mine doesn't.

    But the point's moot anyway, I'm all set and I'm happy with the new SSD. Thanks

    Well, the way you did it was also dumping the image into an aligned partition and Macrium did not alter the alignment. All you really did is use the initial install as an alignment means. The onl difference here is that you replace an existing OS rather than restoring to an empty partition.

    In your other attempts you must have been doing something wrong - e.g. restoring the image to the SSD rather than to the partition you created on the SSD.
