    Can't install windows 7

So i have this problem with windows 7, i've had it before and fixed it myself cuz i had the laptop in front of me,but now it's oversea and have to help that person by phone and it's driving me crazy...

So the problem is that the "format, new, delete" options are grayed out and thus can't format it and install windows on it.

Last time i remember i went into bios and made a change regarding the hdd raid or AHCI, but i can't remember exactly, then came back to installing win7 and it worked to format and create a new partition.

    Help ?

Set your SATA to IDE instead of AHCI and try to install. Installation complete, then put it back

If the Custom>Drive Options are greyed out then it almost always means the disk is running from WIndows and not booted.

Set DVD drive first to boot in BIOS setup as shown here: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Or use the one-time BIOS boot menu key given on first boot screen. It can be frustrating trying to help someone do this via phone, I know.

Always try install in AHCI mode first. Reset your BIOS to optimal defaults then check to be sure.

Other tips for getting a perfect reinstall, which you can image after setup so it never needs reinstalling: Reinstalling Windows 7
